Margao market goes digital with LagiKon app

Hyper local business directory for Goa, LagiKon App and website launched at Margao

A hyper-local business directory, called the LagiKon app, was launched by Margao Municipal Council chairperson Damodar Shirodkar in the presence of the councillors of the Margao Municipal Council on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day.

The LagiKon app and website aim at listing each and every business activity in the state with a special emphasis on small businesses in rural areas.
Hundreds of shops selling diverse products and services in Margao New Municipal Market are available on the LagiKon app and website, making it Goa’s first digital market space.

Margao chairperson Damodar Shirodkar commended the promoters of the LagiKon app for launching this unique initiative from Goa’s commercial capital, Margao.
“The LagiKon app and website will immensely help small businesses to improve their customer base and at the same time benefit the customers to find the nearest shops,” Shirodkar said.

Margao New Market Traders Association President Vinod Shirodkar said that the Margao market is one of the oldest markets of Goa and the complete digitisation of this market will help attract new customers to this market.
This compact market sells a wide range of products, especially some exclusive and typical Goan products. This app will help people across Goa and also tourists visiting the state to know about unique products available here.
While explaining the objective of this initiative, the promoter of the LagiKon app Niraj Naik said, “We want to connect the customers with businesses in their vicinity. The whole objective of the initiative is to bring every business operating in the remotest part of Goa on this app and help them to take advantage of information technology. Besides business info, this app will also contain useful data such as tourist attractions, social infrastructure, etc.”

Milind Prabhu, CEO of Genora Infotech, which has developed the LagiKon app and website, said, “LagiKon is a dear project to us. The project has been developed for the Goan customer base and that gives us immense satisfaction to be a part of the development team. We are thankful to the promoters for this wonderful opportunity.”
Built around the concept of ‘Vocal for Local’, the LagiKon app gives users details of services and utilities available in their immediate vicinity, including contact information, photographs and also directions to the location of the service or utility through GPS.

More importantly, the app gives local service providers, small-time businesses and vendors a platform for getting noticed by their prospective customers. LagiKon’s hyper-local database of products, utilities and service providers is what makes it stand out from other apps of its kind.
The app will direct the customer who is looking for services to the nearest service provider or business, saving his/her time and effort while the hitherto unnoticed small-time local service provider will get the much-needed business and increased footfall. This will create a win-win situation for both.
The app database comprises a wide spectrum of businesses – very small household ventures to large specialised businesses.

However, small businesses and service providers, more specifically in rural areas of Goa, will be the main focus of the app. The endeavour is to collect real, active businesses by visiting their locations in every panchayat of Goa.
Genora Infotech hopes to ensure that any person doing any type of commercial activity in Goa is incorporated into the app.

Besides business information the app will also contain all useful data on tourist attractions and social infrastructure which prove useful to a local or traveler.
