Echoes of Earth festival: Creating Awareness and Celebrating Ecosystems

Echoes of Earth, India’s greenest festival, is described by the Director of Tourism, Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, as a blend of celebration and awareness for both children and adults.

Emphasising the importance of more sustainable festivals in Goa, Anchipaka highlighted that Goa is the first state in the country to introduce a Regenerative Tourism Model, going beyond sustainability to focus on responsible and regenerative tourism. The Goa Tourism Department, under this model, promotes initiatives like Echoes of Earth, where sustainable materials are used for infrastructure and decor, and educational programs about Goa’s forests and marine ecosystems are provided for all ages.

Expressing the desire to make Echoes of Earth an annual event in Goa's calendar, Anchipaka embarked on a guided walkthrough of the festival venue in Chopdem, Pernem. During the tour, he appreciated the diverse sustainable measures incorporated into the festival’s design, recognising how these initiatives contribute to the awareness and preservation of Goa’s biodiversity.
