Varun Albuquerque has been conferred as the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Goa. Albuquerque, is a Director of one of Goa’s oldest business houses, the Alcon Victor Group, having diverse business interests ranging from Real Estate Development to Hospitality and Healthcare.
The notification on February 12th, 2025 in the Gazette of India states that the President of India has formally and officially recognized Albuquerque’s appointment as the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation with the Consular district comprising of the State of Goa.
Official communication to Albuquerque’s office states: “This designation is the recognition of your tireless efforts to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Russian citizens in Goa and promote cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of India in various spheres.”
The Alcon Victor Group owns and operates premier hotels in the State of Goa, including the Radisson Blu Resort Goa at Cavelossim and the company’s flagship 181-room Novotel Goa Dona Sylvia Resort, among others. It also owns and operates Victor Hospital, Goa’s first super-specialty 150-bed hospital, located in Margao City. In 2023, Albuquerque acquired the non-operational Radisson Blu at Hinjawadi Pune, which is now owned and operated by the group.
After completing his BCom, Varun Albuquerque pursued MBA in Mumbai at the prestigious NarseeMonjee Institute of Management Studies. He is currently focused on new projects and expansion of the business and also overseeing the day-to-day operations which are otherwise professionally managed. Albuquerque has been assisting the Hon. Consul of the Russian Federation in Goa for coordinating with the local Police and FRRO in regards to the Russian Nationals in Goa and also helping the Russian Nationals whenever required. His father, the Late Victor Albuquerque held the post till his demise in 2022
