Training Centre

Institute for International Talent Development Private Limited [IITD], launched its inaugural 3-Day Training and Certification Course to develop skilled supervisors and entrepreneurs in the field of Waterproofing, Structural Repair and Maintenance of Structures. This program provided an opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to garner technical skills to launch their own startups in the field of Maintenance of civil engineering assets. The first of its kind in Goa, the program covered modern techniques in waterproofing, concrete repairs, concrete protection, injection grouting and concrete technology along with the practicalities of using modern construction chemicals. The interactive program, which had both a theory and practical component, was a resounding success with over 30 participants from across India attending the program.

The program was conceptualized and delivered by IITD for Assess Build Chem Private Limited and offered a Certification of Competency, Accredited and Certified by the Construction Industry Development Council [CIDC]. CIDC is an apex body in the construction industry, that was setup with the Planning Commission / Niti Aayog, to develop the Indian Construction industry and raise its quality levels by providing organizational infrastructure and guidance. One of the main initiatives of CIDC is training manpower from skilled worker level to the construction management level. This program was a huge step in this direction.

Distribution of certificates

The program was inaugurated by Dr. P. R. Swarup, Director General of CIDC and Robert D’Souza of Int-Electra, a highly experienced technical expert in the field of Injection Grouting, along with Er. Samir Surlaker, Director of IITD. Each of the dignitaries, post lighting of the lamp, shared their vast experience and highlighted the importance of training and skill development, especially in the field of waterproofing and maintenance of structures. They motivated the attendees to ask as many questions as possible, seek knowledge, be certified for it and be a part of a new and Skilled India.

The segments in the training program were covered by field experts in the field of concrete, waterproofing and repairs and maintenance of structures. The training was headed by Er. Sunny Surlaker who conceptualized and conducted the course and covered the basics of concrete, waterproofing, repairs, and detailing. The other trainers for the course included, Er. Samir Surlaker, Robert D’Souza covering case studies in Injection Grouting, Prasad Bhobe, covering practical material application, Shounak Vaigankar covering practical injection grouting and Sujay Surlaker, covering costing and estimation.

Practical demonstrations

The highlight of the program was a joint CIDC-IITD certificate provided to the participants. This certificate of competency was provided based on level of interest and participation in the course, demonstrations, and a written test. This Certification allows the attendees to be placed in CIDC’s national database and aims to improve their skills but most importantly, their employability. CIDC and IITD both aim to expand the footprints of this program across India.
