The SP, Crime Branch, Shobhit Saxena on Saturday, made a statement wherein he ensured that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that has been probing the illegal mining cases for five years would take all steps to make sure that they are given a logical and rational conclusion. Saxena further stated that appropriate action would be taken in these cases. The SP also said that the SIT is studying documents including environmental clearances (EC) to the leases, quantity related papers and EC limits submitted by the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) regarding 126 mining leases as part of its investigation into the Rs. 35,000 crores worth scam. The Police have distributed the investigation to four PIs. Moreover, the SIT sought clarifications to 19 questions from the DMG with regards to the leases which were operational from 2007 to 2012.
The mining department on July 26, 2013 had filed a criminal complaint in the cases with the crime branch seeking criminal liability against those who are involved in the same, while further requesting police personnel to file an FIR against persons identified in the reports of the SC appointed Central Empowered Committee, the Shah Commission and the Public Accounts Committee.
Further, on August 19, 2013, the crime branch registered an FIR against bureaucrats, politicians, mine owners, mine department officials and other related persons in the three reports which was then transferred to the concerned SIT.
