Pedru Poder is a movie that highlights a goan profession and it’s rare to have a movie made which is intrinsically goan.
The movie revolves around the age-old profession of making the Goan ‘pão’ for which Goans were famous for. The traditional Goan ‘pão’ has a unique taste as it has toddy as one of its ingredients.
This movie brings to the fore this profession of bread-making and depicts that if bread is made with love it becomes all the more tasty.
Deepak Bandekar the producer of the movie talks about Pedru Poder and the action behind the scenes.
“The idea behind Pedru Poder came about when looking where traditional family businesses were dying and the next generation fears being mocked for their roots.” The Creative Head of his studio, Big Banner Entertainment and Media LLP, Jojo D’Souza came up with the idea. “Jojo, pitched the story to me based on some true life incidents that he witnessed of a traditional Goan baker (called a Poder), who dreams of richness and a modern bakery”.
Jojo then roped in Christ Silva to assist and co-write the screenplay with him. It was shared with the team at Big Banner Entertainment and Media LLP and the idea became a story that was finally brought to life in the film Pedru Poder.
Deepak then goes on to explain the plot of the movie. “The movie questions people on the reality of whether money can buy happiness or give happiness. It’s a love story too with a twist and punches of humor.” The basic premise of the movie is that it is a light hearted, rom-com on the life of a simple traditional Goan Baker called a Poder. It debates and retrospects whether money can buy happiness or not.
Elaborating further, Deepak says, “Poder Pedru Gomes dreams of becoming rich and is fed up of the Poder tag. Daisy Colaco, is a rich girl who loves the simple things in life and is looking for true love and happiness. Pedru and Daisy form a bond but Daisy is also promised to her childhood friend, rich model Donald.” The movie then goes on to portray a life of money and fame, of friendship and trust, honesty and deception, which adds drama to this relationship.
Deepak then goes on to mention the cast and crew of the film. “The film star and the emperor of Goan entertainment, John D’Silva, supported by Veronica Fernandes, Mario de Vasco, Spirit Fernandes, Raj Shirodkar, Ratnakar Govekar, Christa Fernandes, Elsie Sequeira, Damodar Dicholkar and others.” The music has been composed by Elick Vaz and the studio engineer.
The crew also included the in- house team of JoJo Dsouza (co-writer & director), Sapna Naik, the Chief Assistant Director and Editor, Rajkumari D’Souza, the Executive Producer), Yogesh Koli , FTII, DOP, the Art Director, Ankita and a crew of 75 personnel. The film was co-produced by Chandan D. Bandekar.
Speaking about the response of the audience towards the film, Bandekar adds, “It’s simple, realistic down to earth scripting, with beautiful performances and the nostalgia of Goa with its music and natural beauty is what is being well received by the audiences. The end credit song is a part of the film and is a rap credit.”
Bandekar proudly says that the entire shoot was complete in 12 days and the post production was concluded in 6 months at their studio.
Like any other project, this movie too had its fair share of challenges. Bandekar adds, “Challenges in the film were motivating and pushing the cast and crew to give their best on a daily basis of every shoot day and from the results, and thousands of audience reviews, we are extremely happy that Pedru Poder is getting the love it deserves.”
Movies like Pedru Poder pave the way for more movies on different Goan professions, which will do a world of good in reviving such professions. All in all Pedru Poder ia an entertaining movie and drives home the point that one has to be careful and vigilant when it comes to money and investments as well as maintaining relationships along the way.
