The 6.6-km-long, six-lane link road connecting National Highway 66 (NH 66) to Mopa’s Manohar International Airport is expected to open for public transportation within the next 15 days. Recently, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant invited Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to inaugurate the road during a visit to New Delhi.
During the meeting, Sawant also extended an invitation to Gadkari to lay the foundation stone for the four-lane connectivity road from MES College Junction to Bogmalo Junction. Reportedly, the main construction work for the link road to Mopa airport, which includes a ₹770 crore elevated corridor built by Ashoka Buildcon Limited, has been completed. Minor remaining tasks are scheduled for completion within the week.
Once the State Government receives confirmation of a date from the Union Minister, the inauguration date for the Mopa link road will be finalised. The link road features a 2.7 km elevated section reaching a peak height of approximately 40 metres, situated in the hilly terrain of Pernem taluka. It also includes four road overbridges and a four-leg interchange.
