Manohar airport expansion to commence this year

The Manohar International Airport (MIA) handled over 30 lakh passengers in 2023 and expects to expand its capacity to 80 lakh passengers by October, when the winter schedule commences. The GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) which operates the private airport said that work on the 3rd phase of the airport expansion will begin in the third quarter of 2024. The Greenfield airport which completes a year of operations, currently handles 100 air traffic movements per day, with an average of 15,000 passengers using the terminal daily. “The number of domestic destinations connected to Goa has more than doubled, now reaching 29, up from 14 before Manohar International Airport operations began. The ongoing expansion aiming to reach around 80 lakh passengers per annum, is set to be completed before the winter schedule of 2024,” said GGIAL CEO R V Sheshan.

Spread across an area of 2132 acres, the airport was built to serve 44 lakh passengers per annum in phase 1. Seeing a strong demand from passengers and airlines, the GGIAL began the process to expand the terminal capacity in mid-2023. When phase 4 of the airport expansion is completed, the terminal will able to handle 1.3 crore passengers annually.  Since it commenced operations, the airport has witnessed a steady growth in passengers, routes and the launch of international services. The airport connects to 25 domestic and four international destinations.
