Lieutenant Colonel Jesus Furtado, a son of soil and Kargil war hero, who is the Commanding Officer of 1 Goa Battalion (Bn) National Cadet Corps (NCC) at Panjim, has been promoted to Colonel.
Colonel Furtado was posted as Commanding Officer (CO) of a Meghalaya Battalion NCC before this appointment. He joined the Army in 1995.
Colonel Furtado completed his schooling at Loyola High School, Margao, and graduated from Chowgule College, where he was a distinguished NCC cadet.
He has served in nearly 15 States in the last 27 years, which includes Jammu & Kashmir in counter-insurgency operations, apart from Operation Vijay in 1999 and Operation Parakram in 2001.
He was awarded the Chief of the Army Staff Commendation for gallantry in Kashmir. He served in Assam in counter-insurgency operations and handled conflicting tribal ethnic groups impartially, for which he was awarded the Assam Government Citation for maintaining peace, law, and order during the peak of the Kokrajhar riots of 2012.
