Dr. Siya Prabhudesai
The young pediatrician shares her success story as she proudly sets up her own clinic in the bustling city of Margao
All soon to become parents make a number of decisions and selections before the newest and the most important member of their family arrives. Starting with the baby’s name; to their clothes; colour of their room; toys, beds etc. But the most important decision they make is the selection of the right pediatrician for their little one.
They all want their child’s first encounter with a doctor to be a pleasant one – not one where the child ends up getting a white coat fear for years to come. Hence, a child needs a doctor, who is sensitive, sweet, playful and understanding. One doctor who possesses all these traits and is every child’s favourite is Dr. Siya Prabhudesai.
Dr. Siya holds an MBBS from Goa Medical College, after completing her 5 year long foundational course, she started walking down the path of passion – that was of becoming a pediatrician. On being asked about what got her interested in pediatrics specifically, she said, “It’s a very interesting field as you deal with children. Right from the time of their birth, you take care of their growth, development, and assure parents that their children are well and since children can’t speak, you need to understand their symptoms and what they are suffering from and that’s what got me interested in the area of medicine”
Dr Siya enrolled for a 3 years course of MD Pediatrics following which she did a 3 years tenure post of Sr. Residency at GMC which she completed in February 2019.
After completing the course, she moved into the private sector and opened her clinic in Margao on 6th April, 2019. She is also attached to a couple of hospitals where she is an on call doctor for Child Needs and ICU admissions and a few maternity hospitals, as well.
Apart from pediatrics, Dr. Siya is also a neonatologist trained specifically to handle the most complex and high-risk situations. If your newborn is premature, or has a serious illness, injury, or birth defect, a neonatologist may assist at the time of delivery and in the subsequent care of your newborn. If a problem is identified before your baby is born, a neonatologist may become involved to consult with your obstetrician in your baby’s care during your pregnancy.
Presently, Dr. Siya treats patients who include new born and children up till the age of sixteen at her clinic. They also have a small day-care room in the clinic so that cases which do not require admissions but are suffering from minor illness, which can be sorted out in a few hours through the day-care procedures can be catered to.
The facility is also equipped with a receptionist and a trained nurse who help in assisting Dr. Siya with the smooth functioning of the clinic.
In the near future, Dr. Siya plans to set up an ICU; along with that she would love to open a small four or five bedded ward attached to her clinic
