What unique features or changes can we expect in the 55th edition of IFFI compared to previous years?
This year’s festival will introduce a range of new features aimed at enhancing the audience experience. We plan to include more interactive sessions, digital screenings, and a focus on regional cinema, providing a larger platform to lesser-known but highly talented filmmakers from across India. Additionally, we are working on strengthening international collaborations and bringing in new genres of films to ensure a richer and more diverse lineup.
How do you think the festival has evolved over the years, and what impact has it had on Goa’s cultural and tourism scene?
IFFI has grown into a global cultural event, becoming one of the most respected film festivals worldwide. Over the years, it has helped position Goa not just as a tourist destination but as a cultural hub, drawing filmmakers, actors, and cinema enthusiasts from around the world. The festival has played a significant role in boosting tourism, especially in the off-season, while fostering a deeper appreciation for cinema within the local community.
Can you share any details about the special events or guest appearances that will be highlighted during this year’s festival?
We are excited to host some of the most prominent figures in cinema this year. There will be masterclasses by globally renowned directors and actors, as well as special screenings of landmark films from international and Indian cinema. Guest appearances from award-winning filmmakers and actors are lined up, creating unique opportunities for attendees to engage with these creative minds.
How does IFFI contribute to the growth of Indian cinema on the global stage, and what role does it play in fostering international collaborations?
IFFI serves as a crucial platform for showcasing Indian films to a global audience. It opens up avenues for filmmakers to collaborate internationally, fostering partnerships that help Indian cinema reach new markets. By hosting films from diverse countries and cultures, IFFI enables cross-cultural dialogues that are essential for the growth of the film industry on a global scale.
The festival often showcases films from a variety of genres and countries. How do you ensure a diverse and inclusive selection of films for this year’s program?
We have a dedicated selection committee that works with experts from various countries to ensure the festival reflects a wide range of voices and perspectives. Our focus is on curating a lineup that is not only diverse in terms of genres but also inclusive of films from underrepresented communities and regions. We believe cinema should be a mirror to all walks of life, and we strive to achieve that through a meticulous selection process.
What initiatives or programs does IFFI have to support emerging filmmakers particularly in terms of networking, mentorship, or showcasing their work?
IFFI has several initiatives in place to support emerging filmmakers. We offer mentorship programs, masterclasses, and networking opportunities with industry veterans. The festival also hosts short film competitions and special sections dedicated to new filmmakers, providing them a platform to showcase their work and gain international recognition.
As Vice Chairman of the Entertainment Society of Goa, what are your personal aspirations for the future of IFFI and its role in the global film industry?
I envision IFFI continuing to grow as a premier destination for filmmakers and cinema lovers from around the world. My aspiration is to see the festival further cement its position as a vital platform for global film discourse, encouraging more cross-border collaborations and supporting the next generation of filmmakers. IFFI should be a space where creative talents from diverse backgrounds come together to push the boundaries of cinema.
