GCCI conducts inaugural GST study course

The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) jointly with the Bombay Chartered Accountants’ Society (BCAS) completed its inaugural 4-day Comprehensive Study Course in Goods and Services Tax (GST) at Surendrababu Timblo Convention Hall, Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Panaji. The course was conducted on the four Saturdays of February 2024.

Shrinivas Dempo, President GCCI, in his address, congratulated the GCCI Taxation and Financial Services Committee for the initiative and said that Goods and Services Tax (GST) has truly unified India as One Nation, One Tax and One Market. The GCCI has led the way in embracing taxation changes and playing a pivotal role in ensuring an effective understanding of the GST law. With GST completing more than six and a half years, it was an appropriate time to launch a comprehensive course on GST for the trade, industry and professionals in Goa which would not only help in understanding the intricacies of GST but also address the burning issues in GST.

CA Rohan Bhandare, Chairman of GCCI Taxation and Financial Services Committee thanked the participants for the overwhelming response to the GST course and maintained that the knowledge sessions would help the participants in assisting their organisations in meeting the obligations under GST. The course was attended by 87 participants which included Chief Financial Officers and finance managers from various multinationals (MNCs) and MSMEs as well as Chartered Accountants and tax professionals.

CA Yatish Pai Vernekar, Co-Chair of the GCCI Taxation Committee and Course Coordinator; expressed gratitude to the BCAS for partnering with the Chamber and providing experts from various parts of the country for the course.

The speakers for the last day of the course were CA Naresh Seth, CA  Jayesh Gogri and CA Parimal Kulkarni who deliberated on crucial issues under GST.

The valedictory function was followed by the release of an e-book and distribution of participation certificates to the participants, at the hands of the dignitaries.  Kiran Ballikar compered the valedictory event and Sanjay Amonkar proposed the vote of thanks.
