Dr Mathavaraj S of the UR Rao Satellite Center of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will be bestowed with the Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award on December 13 which is also the birth anniversary of Goa’s former chief minister. 106 applicants applied for the award, out of which 14 were shortlisted by the expert committee that was led by Atomic Energy Commission’s former chairman, Dr. Anil Kakodkar. The prize purse is `5 lakhs and is the highest reward in Science, Technology and citation at present. Dr Mathavaraj S has contributed significantly to the Chandrayaan-3 by designing its manoeuvre strategies and has developed the optimal control algorithm as well as non-linear tools for the lander trajectory design that allows for a powered descent. Moreover, he is the recipient of ISRO Young Scientist Award, 2018; Indian National Academy of Engineering – Young Engineer Award, 2021; and The Institution of Engineers India Young Engineers Award, 2022.
