Synapse, India’s leading storytelling agency has produced a four-minute documentary on India’s only Geographical Indicated registered alcoholic beverage – Feni, a spirit which the Government of Goa recognised as a heritage asset of the state. The documentary ‘Goan Treasure: the journey of Feni’ has been produced in tandem with Madame Rosa Distillery, the pioneers of the feni industry. ‘Goan Treasure: the journey of Feni’ was launched by author and epicurean Odette Mascarenhas at designer Sheena Wadhawan’s ‘Runway White’ exhibition on the November 3 at the Goa Marriott Resort & Spa. Through her collection, Sheena celebrates the colour white. In keeping with this theme, the white Goan spirit was also spotlighted.
‘Goan Treasure: the journey of feni’ takes the viewers through versatile verticals of the beverage; starting from its history, and the journey from a cashew apple to the alcoholic beverage. The video also celebrates iconic Goan artist Mario Miranda, whose art on Lembranca is one of the highlights in the video. Mario’s illustration depicts a Goan taverna scene that was created for Madame Rosa Distillery.
Mac Vaz Founder President of Goa Cashew Feni Distillers and Bottlers Association stated, “In this cluttered world of digital media, we wanted to ensure the video was short, informative and most importantly entertaining. Goan Treasure, the video is another rung up the ladder in our journey to take the Indian alcoholic beverage from Goa to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Scotches and Tequilas of the world”
