Manoj Patil is empowering Goa through networking, innovation, leadership, and social impact
Manoj Patil is a multifaceted entrepreneur, founder of Armour Office Automation and Sigma Plus, and an
active member of multiple organizations. He serves as the president of the Goa Badminton Association and is credited with introducing Pickleball to Goa. His involvement extends to organizations such as BNI Goa, Jaycees, Rotary International, Vibrant Goa, GCCI, GEMS Trust, among others.
Early Life and Education
Manoj’s father, originally from Kolhapur, relocated to Goa after the state’s liberation in 1961, working for the government. His mother hails from Bicholim. Born in Bicholim and raised in Panaji, Manoj completed his schooling at People’s High School. He furthered his education at Dhempe College and Government Polytechnic, where he studied Industrial Electronics.
Career Beginnings and Entrepreneurial Leap
After completing his studies, Manoj worked for Chowgule Industries for a year. However, after attending a ‘Leadership in Action’ program organized by the Jaycees, he decided to quit his job and pursue
entrepreneurship. He reflects, “The idea was simple: why not try starting my own business? If I don’t succeed, I can always return back to a job after a couple of years.” He began his journey with office automation products and later expanded into corporate training.
The Birth of Sigma Plus
In 2007, while serving as Zone President of Junior Chamber International (JCI), Manoj noticed a gap in the soft
skills development of youth. He realized that while many excelled in their professions, success depended on key skills like communication and leadership. This realization led to the founding of Sigma Plus
in 2008. Sigma Plus stands for: Self-Improvement to Generate Maximum Advantage, and the Plus signifies continuous growth. Initially catering to local clients, the organization later brought in experts from
across India and abroad. Over time, Manoj has reinvigorated the company and focuses on skill development in alignment with the Prime Minister’s emphasis on skill development and upskilling.
Sigma Plus offers training to college students and corporates. To expand reach, Manoj has forged partnerships with prestigious institutions like Lamrin Tech Skill University, Mysore University, and Chamrajnagar University. The company also collaborates with several corporates for domain-specific and tailored training solutions.

Armour Office Automation: Providing Office Solutions
Manoj founded Armour Office Automation in 1991 after a successful career in marketing EPABX systems and telecom products at Chowgule Industries. Reflecting on his journey, Manoj explains that his decision to start Armour was fueled by his desire to provide quality office automation products and services.
Initially focusing on EPABX systems and telephones, Armour has expanded its offerings to include CCTV surveillance, smart boards, access control systems, digital signages, biometric attendance solutions, etc. Today, the company boasts over 5,000 clients across Goa, and its philosophy remains focused on quality over quantity.
Staying Ahead with Technological Advancements
The office and home automation industry is ever evolving. Manoj discusses how the company’s focus has shifted
from EPABX systems to CCTV surveillance as the primary offering. Initially, Armour installed basic analog systems, but today, it provides IP-based systems with high-definition footage, even in low-light conditions. These systems can capture vehicle number plates and driver faces, even when vehicles are moving.
In addition to advanced CCTV solutions, Armour now offers smart home features like remote door access, enabling homeowners to monitor their properties from anywhere in the world. Manoj emphasizes staying updated with the latest technological developments to meet changing client demands.

Integrating Training with Business Operations
Manoj’s involvement in corporate training strengthens his business operations at Armour. By providing specialized, domain-specific content, Manoj differentiates Sigma Plus from other training providers. As cybersecurity becomes a growing concern, Manoj highlights the importance of addressing digital fraud. He brings in top experts to provide value-added insights into this critical issue. Additionally, the company offers specialized training
programs like Design Thinking and Critical Decision making, tailored to meet the unique needs of organizations.
His entrepreneurial journey has been a blend of technological innovation and leadership development.
Building Strong Business Connections
Manoj is one of the founding members of BNI Goa and credits the organization for playing a pivotal role in the growth of his business. Reflecting on his involvement, he recalls, “It was around 2009 when my close friend Rajkumar Kamat visited me at my office. He had attended a BNI meeting in Pune and was impressed by its structure; and wanted to bring the concept to Goa and asked if I would be interested in joining. Without hesitation, I agreed, recognizing the immense potential of such a network.”

Overcoming Initial Challenges and Growing the Network
Speaking on the early days of BNI in Goa, Manoj shares, “Initially, we faced challenges. Goa is often described as a place of ‘Susegaad,’ a more laidback way of life. The question was how could we make BNI work here? It took us three to four months to secure the first 20 members. However, we persisted, and on March 15, 2009, we launched the first BNI chapter − Aparant − in Panaji. Although I had to step back from active membership
due to other commitments, I continue to support the young entrepreneurs of BNI Goa and thus help them grow.
Over the last 15 years, the BNI Goa region has grown to 17 chapters.”
Manoj emphasizes how BNI has transformed business practices in Goa: “The way business is conducted here has changed significantly since BNI’s establishment. What I have personally gained from this network is the ability to connect with anyone, anywhere. BNI has allowed me to build goodwill, making it easy for me to connect with others.”

Commitment to Social Impact
Manoj has been actively involved in various influential organisations, including Junior Chamber International (JCI), Rotary International, Vibrant Goa Foundation, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), and GEMS.
His contributions to these organisations have allowed him to make meaningful impacts on both his personal growth and the community at large. Manoj’s journey with JCI began in 1989. “JCI is a platform for individuals aged 18 to 40, offering vast leadership development opportunities. It has been pivotal in enhancing my soft skills − such as communication, delegation, leadership, and decision making − skills that are crucial in today’s fast-paced world. Through JCI, I have connected with individuals not only in Goa but across India, which has greatly contributed to my personal development.” He had the privilege of leading Goa, Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur and Ratnagiri in 2007 as the Zone President.
Manoj’s association with GCCI began in 2000, as a first-generation entrepreneur. He explains, “I saw GCCI as an ideal platform to connect with fellow entrepreneurs and further my business journey. Over the years, GCCI has been instrumental in shaping my entrepreneurial skills, providing valuable mentorship, and offering connections with established business leaders. I am an invitee to the Managing Committee of GCCI, reflecting my ongoing commitment to the business community and its development.”
Through his involvement in BNI, Manoj, alongside other members, began exploring impactful ways to contribute to the social fabric of Goa. “As entrepreneurs, the most significant contribution we could make was to inspire youth to pursue entrepreneurship. This led to the formation of GEMS (Goa Entrepreneurs Mentoring Trust), an organisation focused on mentoring young individuals and encouraging them to see entrepreneurship as a viable career path. Our primary focus is on higher secondary school and college students, helping them understand the importance of entrepreneurship.”

One key aspect of GEMS’ approach is engaging parents in the entrepreneurial journey. “Parents often advise their children to pursue stable jobs instead of business ventures. Therefore, it is crucial to involve parents in the process, guiding them to understand the value of supporting their child’s entrepreneurial aspirations.”
Manoj places great emphasis on the role of mentorship in fostering successful entrepreneurs. “Through GEMS, we connect aspiring young entrepreneurs with experienced mentors who can provide guidance and share the lessons they’ve learned throughout their careers. This mentorship helps mentees avoid common mistakes and navigate
challenges. We often see that without the right guidance, many young entrepreneurs give up prematurely, especially if they don’t experience success early on.”
Manoj urges successful entrepreneurs to step forward and mentor the next generation. “If you have achieved success
in your field, you possess the knowledge and experience that can make a significant difference in the journey of an aspiring entrepreneur.”
Dedication to Social Causes
Manoj’s commitment to philanthropy is exemplified through his active involvement with the Rotary Club, a global organisation renowned for its significant contributions to various social initiatives. “Rotary’s global efforts, such as the polio immunisation programme launched in the late 1970s, have been instrumental in nearly eradicating polio
worldwide,” he says.
Manoj joined Rotary in 2000 and has since consistently contributed to its mission. He highlights his tenure as president of Rotary Club of Panaji in 2014, where he had the privilege of serving alongside the late Manohar Parrikar, Goa’s former Chief Minister. “During my presidency, we initiated various impactful programmes, including scholarships for students, teacher recognitions, tree planting campaigns, and blood donation drives. These activities form an annual calendar from 1st July to 30th June, with 100 dedicated members who contribute their time and effort to improve the community.”

Manoj’s continued involvement with Rotary is driven by the organisation’s collective focus on supporting the underprivileged and vulnerable members of society. Manoj reflects on how he effectively balances his business
commitments and social initiatives, stating, “Over the years, I have honed the art of multitasking, which allows me to manage both my business and community work efficiently. I believe multitasking is a crucial skill for anyone looking to succeed in both personal and professional life.”
He adds, “In addition, I have found that when you approach others with genuine intent and a spirit of goodwill, people are always willing to help.”
A New Sports Revolution
Manoj Patil’s passion for sports has always been a significant part of his life. Reflecting on his journey, he shares, “I
represented Goa in cricket, playing at the Under-15 level in 1983, and continued competing at the Under-22
level. However, as my business grew, I had to step back from active cricket. Despite this, I remained involved in the sporting community in various capacities.”
The Introduction of Pickleball
Manoj’s connection to Pickleball began when Arvind Prabhu, National President of the sport, approached him to help introduce it to Goa. “I had seen Pickleball on social media and quickly recognized its potential. Given Goa’s growing sporting culture, I believed the state could become the hub for Pickleball in India. The sport is easy to learn, social, and inclusive − where, as I often say, a grandfather can play alongside his grandchild. It’s affordable, low-stress, and suitable for people of all ages.” He mentions that today Goa boasts of over 30 Pickleball courts across various venues, including high-end properties like Taj and local clubs such as Gaspar Dias, Panjim Gymkhana, and BPS Sports. The sport has also found a place in housing societies and schools, making it accessible to a wider audience.
Looking ahead, Manoj envisions Pickleball playing a significant role in Goa’s tourism and economy. “In the next year, we anticipate a rapid increase in the number of Pickleball courts across Goa. We plan to host a number of national and international tournaments, which will significantly contribute to the local economy.
With Goa’s perfect climate, excellent sports facilities, and vibrant atmosphere, it is ideally positioned to host similar
international events.”
Championing the Growth of Badminton in Goa
As President of Goa Badminton Association (GBA), Manoj Patil is dedicated to promoting and advancing the sport
of badminton in the state. Reflecting on his role, he shares, “Upon assuming presidency of Goa Badminton Association, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, I was eager to build on the strong foundation laid by previous athletes and take the sport to new heights in Goa.”
Manoj highlights Goa’s rich legacy in badminton, citing talented athletes like Tanisha Crasto, who represented India at the Olympics last year. “Goa has consistently produced talented players, and we are proud to have some of the best badminton infrastructure in India. Our indoor stadiums, such as those at Peddem, Campal and Navelim, are
among the finest facilities in the country.” This year, GBA will host the prestigious Masters Nationals, attracting over 2,000 players and also Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 Nationals. Last year, the National Championship saw nearly 4,000 participants. These high-profile events not only showcase Goa’s sporting capabilities but also provide a boost to the local economy. As President of GBA, Manoj’s primary focus is on grassroots development. “I am committed to identifying and nurturing young talent, both boys and girls, with the goal of helping them excel on national and international stages,” he explains.
Recognizing that badminton is a sport that requires significant investment in training and equipment, Manoj
is working to secure corporate sponsorships through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. By strengthening the sport at the grassroots level and ensuring adequate resources, Manoj aims to elevate Goa’s position as a key player in the national badminton scene.
Awards and Accolades
Throughout his dazzling career, Manoj has been honoured with numerous accolades and awards. Reflecting on these
recognitions, he shares, “One of the most significant moments in my career came in 1989, when I was named the ‘Best Young JC of the State’. This recognition served as a powerful source of motivation, inspiring me to continue striving for excellence in all my endeavours.” Over the years, Manoj has received several prestigious awards, including ‘Best President’ at Rotary District 3170, Leadership award by NCC and multiple recognitions at BNI. “While these awards are deeply appreciated, I believe they are not the driving force behind my work. The true
value lies in the positive impact I can create on others.” For Manoj, the lasting impact he has on the community and the joy of helping others remains the greatest motivation in his journey.
Family Support
Manoj attributes much of his professional success and active involvement in various organisations to the
unwavering support of his family, particularly his wife, Vidya. “Everything I have been able to achieve today is because of the support I receive from my better half. The time I dedicate to these organisations is only possible because she ensures that everything runs smoothly at home. Over the years, she has generously given me the space and time to pursue my passions and commitments, and for that, I am deeply grateful. Without her, none of
this would have been possible.”
Together, Manoj and Vidya are proud parents of their daughter, Sonia. As parents, Manoj and his wife have always been dedicated to supporting their daughter’s passions. For Sonia, that passion was cooking. With determination and hard work, she achieved her goal of entering the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), securing an impressive 31st All India Rank in the entrance exams, which enabled her to pursue her graduation at IHM Goa. Sonia’s ambition didn’t stop there. She chose to continue her culinary education at Le Cordon Bleu, one of the most prestigious culinary institutions with campuses in 32 countries.
After excelling in her entrance exams, Sonia was awarded a scholarship and went on to study in Melbourne, Australia. Sonia now works as a chef in Melbourne, gaining invaluable experience in her field.
Vision for the Future
Manoj outlines his future plans, which reflect both his personal and professional commitment to continued growth and impactful contributions. His vision spans several initiatives, ranging from sports development to entrepreneurship and corporate training. Currently serving as President of Goa Badminton Association, Manoj is in the midst of his four-year term. Having just completed the first year of his tenure, he is determined to make significant strides in promoting badminton within the state.
In addition to his work with badminton, he also serves as an advisor for Pickleball. His aspiration is for Goa to become the hub of Pickleball in India, an objective he believes is entirely achievable with the right efforts.
At GEMS, Manoj remains deeply committed to mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs. His focus is on fostering a culture where individuals are encouraged to become job creators, rather than job seekers.
Manoj is also a strong pillar of the Vibrant Goa Foundation a Not For Profit Trust. On the advice of the former Chief Minister of Goa, late Manohar Parrikar, he along with five others established the Vibrant Goa Foundation to enable
Goan businesses expand their reach beyond the state and providing them with the tools, resources, and connections
needed to thrive on a global stage. The first ever Vibrant Goa Global Expo was held in 2019 which had 512 international delegates and more than 12000 business footfalls. The 2nd Global Expo was held in October 2024 and had delegates from 52 countries. “We are proud to state that 40 of our first generation entrepreneurs have become exporters,” adds Manoj.
Vibrant Goa Foundation have also organized a Green Summit, Tech Summit, a Tourism Round Table and a inspiration awards program in the last couple of years with an education summit and construction summit to be
held very soon. On the personal business front, Manoj has recently transitioned his company, Sigma Plus, into a private limited entity, Cognitive Flux Training and Consulting Private Limited. With this
new direction, Manoj’s vision is to offer domain-specific, value-added programmes to organisations, corporate entities, and the student community across India. Through these diverse and forward-thinking initiatives, Manoj Patil is committed to continuing his journey of creating lasting, positive change both in Goa and beyond.
