Campsites planned at various places under Forest Tourism

The Goa Forest Department has selected various sites including regions like Surla, Collem and Mollem as part of the development plan for promoting forest tourism in Goa.

Vishwajit Rane, Minister for Forests, said that the forest department is taking major steps in developing sustainable campsites in the state, promoting forest tourism. “The various sites, including regions like Surla, Collem, Mollem, among others have been selected to be better as a part of the development plan,” he added.

Goa will get its first adventure campsites at Surla as part of the Memorandum of Understanding between Goa Forest Department and Goa Forest Development Corporation Ltd.

The MoU governs the development and upkeep of facilities and activities within a forest and protected areas across Goa.

The collaboration will see the establishment of adventure campsites amidst the stunning landscapes of the Surla plateau, adhering closely to the guidelines outlined by the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

Prioritising sustainability, the entire camping complex will be constructed as a green building, boasting features such as solar lighting, solar fencing, rainwater harvesting, and advanced waste management systems including compost pits and water recharge pits, among other eco-friendly amenities.

Moreover, dedicated personnel will be stationed to educate the public on the importance of conserving and protecting Goa’s diverse natural resources, disclosed Rane.

He said that by establishing eco-friendly campsites, his ministry aims to make camping in Goa both enjoyable and sustainable.

“In 2024, we plan to offer travellers a unique experience combining wildlife safaris and village tours. Our eco-friendly gazebos and canteens will ensure that visitors can relish the beauty of Goa’s natural landscapes while minimising their ecological footprint,” Rane stated.
