Availability of intranet facility is the sole option for online education, says Digambar Kamat

Kamat has been pressing for intranet facilities to be made readily available for connectivity across the State. He further mentioned that the installation of cell phone towers will not solve the connectivity issue entirely but will only add to the financial burden on parents who will be forced to purchase mobile phones for their children. He said, “Intranet has reached every Panchayat and local operators across Goa who can take it to every household television and computer.” He also mentioned how optic fibre cable network would be more reliable in order to provide reliable connectivity to students and teachers and that the State is already equipped with the network from the pilot project gifted by former PM Dr Manmohan Singh.

While pointing to a few advantages of intranet facilities, Kamat has said that this will not just give employment opportunities to local cable operators but will also reduce the pressure on parents to purchase mobile phones.

Kamat further stated how it will be easy to monitor the activity if video transmission is received on home television sets or computers, thus avoiding misuses of cell-phone devices. He urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to shift his priority onto full-fledged availability and implementation of intranet services for smooth stream-lining of online education in Goa for all.
