Well known Konkani writer and activist Anwesha Singbal was elected unopposed as the President of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal (KBM) in Goa thus becoming the first-ever woman to take charge of the organization as its President since its inception in 1962. She succeeded Chetan Acharya who led the KBM for three terms since 2012.
While Pobre Fernandes was elected Vice President, Ulhas Gaonkar, the Secretary took to constitute the new executive committee of the Mandal. Purushottam Verlekar and Sneha Sabnis were elected Joint Secretaries at the election.
Associated with the KBM since 2008, Anwesha has two books published in her name and her poetry book namely “Sulus” has been the recipient of the Yuva Puraskar of Sahitya Akademi at New Delhi.
Anwesha has held the position on Secretary at the KBM in the year 2012 and has been responsible for coordinating various vital events such as Shenoi Goembab Kathamal, Goa Yuva Mahotsav, Bal Sahitya Parishad and many more.
In her statement to the media, Anwesha said that her election to the post of President was an indication of the confidence reposed in her as a youth leader by the KBM. In spite of the current COVID-19 pandemic and related shortcomings, she promised to work tirelessly towards the upliftment and further development of the Mandal.
