African imported cashew nuts sold as ‘Goan cashew Nuts’

At the Goa State Consumer Rights Day programme at Sankhali, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant stated that cashew nuts acquired from outside Goa are being sold as ‘Goan cashew nuts’.

The Department of Legal Metrology has noticed that the cashew nuts being sold in Goa are largely sourced from other states or Africa. The Chief minister argued that Goan cashew nuts have a one of kind taste and the government will take action against these falsely sold cashew nuts.

The Chief Minister said that these shopkeepers mustn’t believe that they are capable of conning consumers into buying cashew nuts that have not been produced within Goa and also taste nothing like the Goan cashew nut. The government has decided to check these shops and create awareness amongst the people, to prevent consumers from being conned into buying the wrong cashew nuts.

During the program the Chief Minister applauded a female entrepreneur  from Parra, Bardez, who is known for making ladoos that are health conscious, with millets and dates and without jaggery or sugar. He said that during his visit to Delhi he presented 10 boxes of these ladoos to the union minister. He was profoundly impressed with the10 lakh annual turnover that this female entrepreneur managed to achieve in the mere two years of having started the self-help group (SHG). He also added that in today’s world female entrepreneurs and self-help groups (SHGs)have blossomed and their potential for creativity will guide them towards being massive contributors to the state’s economic growth.

The inauguration of the Packers Registration-cum-FSSAI India Licence Camp for SHGs under the flagship programme of Swayampurna Goa 2.0 took place in the presence of the Chief Minister. During the program he unveiled the new logo of the Department of Legal Metrology, Citizen Charter and Goa Gram Magazine. He also awarded 10 packers FSSAI certificates.

With online portals such as e-Bazaar the Swayampurna Goa 2.0 has laid out a platform for SHGs in the State and the state government has promised to provide all the support needed to ensure the growth of Swayampurna Goa 2.0.
