State Government disburses Rs. 92.98 Lakhs worth of funds to IT startups

Earlier this week, the Goa State government has revealed that monetary incentives of up to Rs. 92.98 Lakh will be given to local startups in Goa till date under the Goa Startup Policy, 2017. The said disbursement shall be given to 21 Goan startups where of the total figure, about 77.92 lakhs was given to 13 startups during the last nine months. Commenting on the same, Goa IT minister Jennifer Monserrate said that funds have been disbursed under various financial incentives related schemes under the State startup policy.

She further added that the State is eager to enthusiastically support startups during these times of the pandemic and that the Startup Promotion Cell (SPC) has already started working on the creation of a draft for an all new Goa Startup Policy since the policy that is currently in place happens to expire this year. “The policy will be framed keeping in mind the learning from the existing policy, inputs from local startup unit owners and startup ecosystem enablers,” said the IT minister.

The draft of the new Goa Startup Policy for 2020 will be made public and uploaded to the state online portal for stakeholders to gather additional information. The same shall also be MyGov.in online platform that is exclusive to Goa. This policy, according to Monserrate, is projected to lay particular emphasis on social enterprises and women entrepreneurs, with sustainable solutions being the primary focus. The policy will also inculcate support programmes like Buddy and devoted mentoring programmes that will aid Goan IT units to elevate and reach global heights.
