Digital Language Laboratory and Skill Development Center was inaugurated recently at Dhempe College

The Digital Language Laboratory and Skill Development Center at Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of Goa University Professor Varun Sahni, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. trustee of the Dempo Charities Trust, Pallavi Dempo; administrator of Dempo Charities, Rajesh Bhatikar; and Principal Dr. Vrinda Borker were the other dignitaries on the dais.
The ceremony began with a formal presentation of the Digital Language Laboratory and Skill Development Center (DLLSDC) by Assistant Professor Clarinda Dias and Assistant Professor Akshata Bhatt. The presentation gave in-depth overview of the various facilities and proposed courses to be offered by DLLSDC. The courses range from refresher courses in English and multiple languages native to Goa, for teachers from across the state, to beginner courses in foreign languages. The digital laboratory also offers a range of courses for students preparing for international assessment exams such as IELTS and TOEFL, as well as courses aimed at aiding people in recruitment intensive industries.
Principal of the college, Dr. Vrinda Borker, credited former Chief Minister of Goa, late Manohar Parrikar, for the idea behind the inception of DLLSDC. She highlighted the need for facilities that aided and enhanced spoken and written language skills, and commended the language departments of Dhempe College of Arts and Science, for spearheading initiatives towards the same. Pallavi Dempo, trustee of the Dempo Charities Trust, reinforced the message of the Principal, pointing out that language proficiency was indeed one of the most pertinent skills required in today’s world, and that the new DLLSDC was the first of many steps towards addressing the dearth of such facilities that would be beneficial to a wide demographic.
Chief Guest of the function, Vice Chancellor of Goa University, Professor Varun Sahni, emphasised the importance of facilities such as DLLSDC, pointing out that while knowledge and skills are correlated, they do not always simultaneously exist, and therefore need to be exclusively nurtured. He applauded the efforts of the college and the language departments towards creating facilities that enhance skills and bolster knowledge, both of which are extremely relevant to people today.
The ceremony ended with the formal unfurling of the ribbon of the Digital Language Laboratory and Skill Development Center
