Two tipper trucks loaded with ‘illegally excavated’ sand were apprehended by the public and panchayat members at Loutolim.
The Maina Curtorim police were informed about the tipper trucks, which were transporting sand and later the police team rushed atbthe spot and conducted an inquiry.
The investigation conducted by the police revealed that the sand was extracted from the Borim bridge area illegally and therefore a case was registered.
The Maina Curtorim police have arrested two persons on charges of illegally extracting and transport on sand from the Borim Bridge area.
Offnces under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the IPC and Section 4 read with Section 21 of the Mines and Mineral Act, have been registered by the Police based on the complaint.
The two tipper trucks have been seized and the two drivers have been released on bail following the orders of Margao court.
The court has ordered them to be released on bail bond of Rs 10,000 with one surety in like amount and has directed them to report at the Maina Curtorim police for 3 days.
