Nalini de Sousa’s  ‘Dances of Goa’ awarded

A TV documentary Dances of Goa directed by Nalini de Sousa, has won the Audience Award at the international festival for short films held at Bulgaria.

Dances of Goa, a short documentary by Lotus Films and TV Pro Production, is a projection of Goa’s oldest and lesser-known dances, such as Zemaado or Bhonvaddo. Thirteen dances, originating from various parts of Goa, have been showcased in their original form and performed by the locals themselves.

According to Nalini de Sousa, director of Dances of Goa, the documentary produced by Fomento and Cidade de Goa aims at unveiling and immortalising the rich and varied culture of Goa through dance. It is a journey that explores the lifestyle, rituals, beliefs, customs and costumes of Goa.

The DVD of the documentary will be released shortly to all educational institutions to enrich students on the cultural heritage of Goa. The Central Library of Goa, too, has copies of the same available so as to promote Goa’s folk dances
