WOMEN HAVE THIS innate power to create. As a sister she creates a protective shield around her siblings; as a mother, she infuses a nurturing energy in her child; and finally as a wife she stands behind her husband as a driving force to help achieve his dream.
Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and valuable is formed. Creativity, it can safely be inferred, is another nature of women, giving life to something new and valuable.
Medha Monteiro, and Rima Dhume Laud have stepped out to create a world of their own through their primary passion – art. Each has their preoccupation, but Goa and nature remain their common string that binds their interest.
All three, under the guidance of Beena Gangani, have managed to rise above the mundane and explore their creative ability and hone their technical skills. Though having had an interest in art since their school days, each of them got busy acquiring ‘conventionally correct’ degrees and consequently building their careers in the following years.
The calling grew louder over the years, finally prodding them to pursue their passion and get formal training. Consistent practice has led them to produce works with a refinement of a professional. If Rima captures nature in the best of its moments, Medha has verdant Goa beautifully framed. Lucia’s apt compositions hold the prized heritage structures in focus.
An exhibition, titled Lumière, with the art works of these three talented women, will be held at Carpe Diem, Majorda from November 13 to 18, 2016.
